The Government of India’s Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) replaced the Global NCAP last year for crash testing and awarding a score to cars sold in the country in order to help buyers make a more informed purchase decision. In the eight months since it came into effect, Bharat NCAP has conducted crash tests for four vehicles. Here’s a list of the four SUVs tested by BNCAP so far with their results.

1. Tata Nexon EV

The Tata Nexon EV is the latest car to be crash tested by Bharat NCAP. The e-SUV secured a 5-star rating for both adult and child protection, scoring 29.86/32 and 44.95/49 points respectively. Priced between Rs 14.49 lakh-19.49 lakh, the Nexon EV directly rivals the Mahindra XUV400 and offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 465km.

2. Tata Punch EV

The Punch EV was tested alongside its sibling Nexon EV and ended up securing an identical 5-star rating for adult and child occupancy. The Punch EV scored 31.46 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45/49 points for child occupant protection. The Punch EV is priced from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh.

3. Tata Harrier/Safari

Crash tested in December last year, both the Safari and Harrier received a Bharat NCAP safety rating of 5 stars for both adult occupancy and child occupancy, with the scores applying to both the SUVs. The two received an AOP score of 30.08 points out of 32, and a COP score of 44.54 points out of 49. While the Harrier is priced between Rs 15.49 lakh-26.44 lakh, the Safari’s price ranges from Rs 16.19 lakh to Rs 27.34 lakh.
